The Emperor is part of the Imagine series, inspired by a deep exploration of symbolism and spiritual philosophy. This body of work draws influence from artists such as Hilma af Klint, alongside traditions including Mysticism, Theosophy, Anthroposophy, and Jungian psychology.
The Emperor tarot archetype in its positive expression, represents structure, leadership, stability, and grounded authority. It speaks to the energy of building strong foundations, making clear decisions, and stepping into personal power with confidence and integrity. Why a swan? Hamsa is the Sanskrit word for Swan (or goose) a profoundly sacred symbol representing the soul, divine knowledge, and cosmic breath.
According to legend, the Hamsa has the magical ability to separate pure milk from a mixture of milk and water. This represents viveka—the wisdom to distinguish truth from illusion and good from evil. It is the mount of Brahma (the Creator) and Saraswati (the goddess of wisdom, arts, and music). Because the Hamsa can walk on land, swim in water, and fly in the sky, it symbolises a spiritually awakened being who can live in the material world without being attached to it. In yoga and Vedanta, a fully enlightened spiritual master or awakened soul is honoured with the title Paramahamsa—literally meaning "Supreme Swan".
This piece invites the viewer to reflect on their own sense of direction and discipline—where order can support growth, and where strength can be balanced with wisdom.
