The Lovers - Imagine Series
(First Availability @ Imagine Launch Exhibition May 30, 2026)
The Lovers is part of the Imagine series, inspired by a deep exploration of symbolism and spiritual philosophy. This body of work draws influence from artists such as Hilma af Klint, alongside traditions including Mysticism, Theosophy, Anthroposophy, Jungian psychology, and ancient lunar philosophies.
Traditionally, The Lovers tarot archetype is depicted beneath the Sun, symbolising illumination, truth, and conscious union. In this work, the narrative shifts toward the Moon — reflecting a more ancient understanding of consciousness, intuition, rhythm, and inner awareness. Across many ancient cultures, including the Maya, Egyptians, Sumerians, Celts, Chinese traditions, and Native American lunar systems, the Moon was revered as a sacred guide governing time, ritual, emotion, and humanity's connection to nature and the cosmos.
Within the teachings of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, the original learning society founded by Mikao Usui, the Moon became a metaphor for consciousness itself. The Usui Master Symbol, Dai Ko Myo — meaning "Great Bright Light" — unites the Japanese symbols for Sun and Moon, suggesting that enlightenment is achieved not through purely solar or lunar qualities alone, but through the balance of both: the radiant clarity of the Sun and the quiet depth of the Moon.
The romantic insight: a meditation on intimacy, balance, and meaningful connection.
The Lovers reflects the beauty of emotional honesty — the moment desire, trust, and inner knowing come into alignment. As Emily Brontë wrote: "Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same."
This piece invites reflection on connection, duality, and the possibility that true union begins through balance within ourselves.
