This piece features the Currawong, a striking bird often associated with magic, divination, and prophecy, echoing its kinship with the crow and magpie. Though cloaked in dark plumage, the Currawong — like many blackbirds — is frequently misunderstood. It defies conventional beauty: not vibrant or melodious, but instead powerful, enigmatic, and true to its nature.

In Feng Shui, shades of black and blue-black represent the Yin aspect — linked to feminine, receptive, and grounding energy. While often avoided in intimate spaces like bedrooms or kitchens, black plays a significant role in areas connected to career and life path, such as entryways, home offices, or living rooms. It corresponds to the Water element, symbolising flow, abundance, and prosperity. There is also a Wood element in the winter phase, gathering energy calmly.

Those drawn to blackbirds like the Currawong need not apologise for their pull toward the mysterious and unseen. These creatures are unapologetically themselves — and in their quiet strength and shadowed grace, they offer a reminder: to embrace our complexity, honour our inner depths, and recognise the power of being wholly who we are.

I love to paint manifestation-driven artworks blending feng shui energy and vision board theory.
